Calf Implants

Conveniently located to serve Houston

Creating fullness in the lower leg can help both men and women who have very skinny legs or ‘chicken legs’ due to natural underdevelopment and an inability to increase calf size by exercise. There are also some people born with clubfoot who have disproportionately small calf muscles. Calf implants have an elongated shape that are available in different lengths, widths and thickness.

How Do Calf Implants Work?

Calf implants are silicone implants implanted in the lower legs for cosmetic enhancement. Calf augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery that can only be done by a skilled and experienced surgeon.

Silicone is a long-lasting substance with properties similar to rubber. When implanted under the skin, silicone implants give the area a fuller appearance. As a result of this, the size of your calves will increase.

Only the back portion of the lower part of your legs can be enhanced with the help of calf implants. If you have other cosmetic concerns about your legs, such as the contouring of your thighs, you will need to speak with Dr. Marcos about additional procedures.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Calf augmentation will not require an overnight stay. General anesthesia will be administered to ensure that the patient does not experience any discomfort during the procedure. It will be delivered either intravenously or through a mask placed over the nose and mouth.

Submuscular and subfascial calf augmentation are the two surgical techniques employed for calf implant surgery. During a submuscular augmentation, a pocket is created in the fibrous sheets of tissue that lie directly underneath the primary muscles responsible for forming the calf. The subfascial augmentation method, on the other hand, involves creating a pocket between the muscle and the fascia that lies underneath the skin.

Once the pocket is created, the implant is inserted and positioned. Finally, the incision is closed with the help of surgical sutures.

What to Expect After the Calf Augmentation Procedure

Compression stockings can help minimize swelling and give comfort and support while you recuperate, and you may need to wear them for several weeks following calf implant surgery. Typically, after a week, the bandages and stitches will be removed. Post-surgical marks will gradually fade.

Following calf implant surgery, you will need to refrain from vigorous exercise for 1 to 2 months. This includes activities such as cycling, weightlifting, and running. Based on how well you are healing, you and Dr. Marcos will determine when it is appropriate to go back to these activities. After a period of six weeks, most people are able to resume their normal activities.

How Much Do Calf Implants Cost?

The cost of calf implants may be affected by anesthesia fees, the exact techniques used, and the total time required to perform the augmentation procedure. Since calf implants are purely cosmetic, they are not covered by health insurance plans.
